This is absoloutely unacceptable I am ashamed of what “Federal intrusions” what ever happened to rule by local and state consensus. I hope our legislators act on such ludacrious “intrusions” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrCPqNdqUcA referring to removal of “religious” and Christmas symbols because of possible offense to some.people. I hope that if you have influence in such an case as this that you would support our local and state governing bodies in such a matter rather than “federal intrusions” on local customs

LOVEofART! What I am setting out to do here, I could not find references on the web, so I am winging it. I want to include plenty of links, so if you find one you like, please check it out! I have spent thirty five plus years in the art industry. Fine art, decorative art, Sports and celebrity, you name it. Everyone was offering high end art, investments (to send your kids to college kind of investments). Original everything, lithographs, serigraphs, etchings, monotypes, monoprints, the rarer the better. This was a good thing. Well in come the hucksters and the profiteers and some may have climbed aboard the gravy train and began to sell (shall we say oversell?) Then came the authorities and they wanted to (as the authorities absent good overall foresight and market insight) sought to bring down the hucksters and profiteers. Where am I going with this? Well quality art and a generation were lost here. Perhaps a few embittered procurers of art work were overcharged, a few scammed.. Quality artwork should not be abandoned.
LOVEofART! A high priced item becomes a target for exaggeration, overselling, inflated value, forgery (to some degree), Investors seeking a return on investment (ROI) and salespeople (needing the commission to make ends meet (and so on). Having seen a cyclical turn in the market, I just wanted to offer my two cents worth. Let the buyer beware, if it seems too good to be true, (it probably is). I see a generation of baby boomers who may have obtained the value of classical music, obtaining a good education, appreciation for ballet, and yet there is an absence of appreciation for fine art. Though they may purchase items from the Smithsonian Institution, The BMA (Baltimore Museum of Art), MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) A Dali retrospective, A Picasso exhibition, the fact remains that quality is still quality. And prints are prints and there is a difference.
LOVEofART! The industrial revolution brought advances in mechanizing and mass producing as well as increasing some product quality and quality of life overall. America has progressed from agricultural to industrial to technological, jobs went overseas, and some are coming back. I just want to state for the record that although I am impressed with Home Depot, Office Depot, Electronics giants (have you checked out a Fry’s electronics store lately) All homage to the powers that be, I am seeing tremendous people and wonderful businesses pushed out by the almighty dollar, profit and “big business”.
LOVEofART! Remember the saga of the wonderful local drug store proprieties and owners going under, while Wal-Mart’s Pharmacies were advertising “I can’t afford my prescriptions” and the T.V. ad’s expressing the undying gratitude of the elderly woman who couldn’t afford her medicine until Wal-Mart introduced500+ medicines for under $4.00 a month? (There is some truth in everything, but don’t believe everything you hear).
I grew up assisting in “fund raising” art auctions and became pretty involved in middle management of custom framing and even auctioned some. I saw some excel, I was there when Norman Rockwell, Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso’s were still being auctioned for under $500.00 The hosts of tremendous talent; Leroy Neiman, Rufino Tamayo, Paul Wunderlich, Graciella Rodo Boulanger, Friedenreich Hundertwasser, Wayland Moore, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Alvar Sunol (alvar sunol munoz-ramos), Not to mention Charles Wysocki, Beverly Doolittle, Jane Wooster Scott, Barbara A. Wood, Lebadang, ERTE (The Russian-born painter Romain de Tirtoff, who called himself Erté after the French pronunciation of his initials) and infamous publishers; Circle Fine Art Corporation and Galleries, Merrill Chase Galleries, (Maury Leibovitz-Leroy Neiman, Knoedler Publishing Art Represenative), Hammer Galleries, Studio 54, and so on. If I keep going it would not end. The point, the market did experience explosive growth and artists that experienced growth and their publishers either continued in their growth and the rules that apply to that growth or diminish, become part of the system or die so to speak. The more senior of the baby boomers can recall what I am referencing. The debacle of the Picasso inheritances, the ongoing saga of which Salvador Dali is authentic? ERTE releases continue to be released well after his passing. Growth or death. In-between those lines there lay much original artwork by lesser known artisans of more meager circumstances. On any given day ebay records indicate original artwork being sold at fractions of that of high speed mechanical reproductions. The investment today into the selling of prints is enormous. I would recommend to any interested party they explore vintage “original” prints as the market and the public eventually will educate themselves to the difference of large expenditures and profits in the current print buying market. Ebay is not the only source, Flea markets, antique stores, you get the idea. Vintage prints and limited editions. Phoenix Art Projects on ebay offers many original lithographs, serigraphs and such at same or less of mass produced prints. Inherently, the four color process has a relatively short life span when not in well controlled lighting, (truth is they fade and change colors quickly). Where original prints last for generations. Also the big box stores with furniture and appealing art “sparkle” I am always attracted to Ikea advertising (well until you move and find out real wood touches up much easier than veneer or Formica over particle board).

LOVEofART! So as with furniture and Big Box stores (no names, let’s say) HD, OD, IK, PO, when was the last time you had to move a piece of furniture that was essentially particle board with a pretty coat of paint? (You can’t tell a book from its cover) (Put a fresh coat of paint and sell it before the tranny goes out!) I bought my computer direct from Dell; I figured if anybody would stand behind a computer, Dell would. After six or seven messages with a salesperson (lady actually) I wound up speaking with a most polite person of uncertain British speaking accent (non-American) who was most sympathetic and even more so less able to do anything to help my computer repair issue (which was less than six months old and under warranty) “If I would not purchase the additional $200.00 warranty, Dell could not help me. I could speak with North American service personnel but that also had an additional service fee. I would like to mention the purpose of going here, the service and quality of furniture and Interior design consultations still exist if you look for it. DHI (décor house interiors) in Roswell, GA. Is such a place. Having known George for some time, there is a meeting of the minds (so to speak) In dealing with a smaller, very qualified store owner and interior design professional offering high quality (What George calls “Pottery Barn Styles, high end furniture, Not high prices”) Here I stand furniture that lasts, service that lasts and quality you can get behind. So at the young age of 51… I am associated with two companies one full time (DHI in Roswell, GA.) and am proud to be associated with. The other Phoenix Art Projects (the ebay arm), as a consultant in a fine art, sports and celebrity memorabilia capacity. Regency Fine Art’s operation in metro Atlanta is a 10,000 square foot showroom packed with all types of fine and decorative art. As custom framers they offer thousands of choices and are in the forefront of conservation framing.

Just my two cents worth.. I am voting pro-life this campaign. I also have to concede that McCain does have an air of being kind of “bumbling”. Remember Reagan.. Reagan had one of the best administrations I can remember! I do believe that McCain will surround himself with the best and brightest. Obama promises change, but really, my dad had a saying “Promise them anything but give them panache. I believe that Russia will be developing a more aggressive posture “again” and as the United States seems to slide slowly into international obscurity.. There will be an increasing necessity to align with other European nations in alliance. This will reduce our “clout” in increasingly troubled areas that need our help like the mid-east. True there are many that would like to see the racial and gender equality that both platforms promise, but the issues are still the issues. I really believe McCain will bring an administration whereas Obama will bring an “I” to the Oval office. Please vote, whoever you vote for, just vote!

HSBC Shame on You!: “What a nightmare it has been trying to open an account at HSBC, ‘The friendly internet bank’ I have spent 5 or 6 hours on the telephone.. 7 or 8 emails later they finally opened my account. Who’s doing who a favor? I let them have my $2000.00, I asked for a $500.00 checking account and a $1500.00 C.D. I applied for a 7 month C.D. because that was the only interest rate that was competitive with ING and Capitol One. They have denied all the letters I sent in and my application request and gave me what they wanted to give me. a 1.75% interest rate. What I wanted was a checking account and a seven month C.D. with comporable rates to ING (At least over 3%) (which is where I transfered the money from) Shame on you HSBC.. You never listened.. I am going to blog this experience My tears, my countleess hours on the phone with uncaring reps at your bank and my countless hours on emails. I am sending this to ING and Capital One who listened to me! O.K. HSBC You win keep my $2000.00 for your 6-9 months C.D. It won’t be worth it as I am writing your Corporate.. and ING and Capital One and blogging it and I will keep on blogging it. HSBC won I lost! I did not get anything I asked for!”
